The intrinsic value of each student as a child of God is accepted as the basis from which the principles of the NZC will be developed in our school. “These principles put students at the centre of teaching and learning, asserting that they should experience a curriculum that engages and challenges them, is forward looking and inclusive, and affirms New Zealand’s unique identity,” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p.9

High Expectations:
At CAS high expectations will be developed through nurturing inquiry thinking, wisdom, and intentional purpose. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:1. “The curriculum supports and empowers all students to learn and achieve personal excellence, regardless of their individual circumstances.” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p 9

Treaty of Waitangi:
At CAS the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi will be honoured as students nurture a connection with God and community. “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1 “The curriculum acknowledges the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the bicultural foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand. All students have opportunity to acquire knowledge of te reo Maori me ona tikanga.” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p 9

Cultural Diversity:
At CAS cultural diversity will be valued as students nurture a connection with God and community. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28 “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12 “The curriculum reflects New Zealand’s cultural diversity and values the histories and traditions of all its people.” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p 9

Inclusion:
At CAS inclusion will be demonstrated as we nurture a connection with God, community and belonging. “Encourage one another and build each other up.” Ephesians 4:29 “The curriculum is non sexist, non racist and non discriminatory; it ensures that students’ identities, languages, abilities and talents are recognized and affirmed and that their learning needs are addressed.” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p 9

Learning to Learn:
At CAS the foundation of learning to learn is in the nurturing of inquiry thinking engagement and contribution. “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2 “The curriculum encourages all students to reflect on their learning processes and to learn how to learn.” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p 9

Community Engagement:
At CAS community engagement will be nurtured through belonging, engaging and contributing with intentional purpose. “You are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do the work He planned for you long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 “The curriculum has meaning for students, connects with their wider lives and engages the support of their families, whanau and communities.” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p 9

Coherence:
At CAS coherence will be developed through nurturing inquiry thinking, engagement and contribution, and nurturing intentional purpose. “For I know the plans I have for you… Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 “The curriculum offers all students a broad education that makes links within and across learning areas, provides for coherent transitions, and opens up pathways for future learning.” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p 9

Future Focus:
At CAS, a future focus will be encouraged by nurturing intentional purpose and inquiry thinking. “For I know the plans I have for you… Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 “ The curriculum encourages students to look to the future by exploring such significant future focused issues as sustainability, citizenship, enterprise and globalization.” The New Zealand Curriculum Ministry of Education (2007) p 9
