4-9 May 2009 was a week Christchurch Adventist High School students will never forget! "Life in the Fast Lane" was the the theme for this years' Week of Worsip - and what a week it was!
WOW saw record student involvement and participation levels with all classes participating in service projects and all sorts of other exciting things that took place! Morning programmes consisted of a thirty-strong Praise and Worship Team and Choir formed especially for the vent, fast lane icebreakers, creative arts performances, open mic sharing times, dramas, and Student Speak - where different students shared a two minute devotional thought or life experience.
Student Leader, Natalia Leatuavao, organised a 'Can Drive' for the Christchurch City Mission. "Students were encouraged to bring cans to donate to the Mission - we had seen an article in the local newspaper saying the Mission was struggling to keep up with demands, so we made contact with the Mission and offered our help. The Manager came to our programme on Friday morning to receive the cans and was totally blown away by what we had to give him. He also commented on how friendly, caring and giving the students were. We give all the praise back to God for the way He used us to help others," Natalia said.
Additionally, all classes did a service project during the week and reported on it at Friday's programme. They ranged from baking scones and muffins delivering them to a local rest home for the elderly, to letterboxing home-made Bible verse cards around the neighbourhood, to donating money towards vaccinations for children in poor countries. "All sorts of service projects were achieved. The students came up with fantastic ways to serve others, as Jesus did! All of these things added to an amazing Spirit-filled Week of Worship. Phew - what a POWERFULweek! Praise God!" Tracey Ling, Chaplain commented.

During the week students were given opportunities to have Bible studies after school with the guest speaker, Pr Giovani Stowers from Hastings. Throughout the week, students made some incredible decisions for God, as a result of their service and challenges from Pr Giovani. Baptism services are to follow in the weeks and months to come.
At the request of the students, a soccer game was also an initiative of the week. Local Pastors VS CAS students! It was a successful, fun game with both sides asking for further matches.
The weekend saw a new Grants Road Ministry Initiative begin - FUSE, a new Friday night bi-monthly programme for all teens across Christchurch run out of the school. Sabbath saw the first ever Teen Rally, with lunch provided, and the whole weekend was topped off with the hiring of Action Indoor Sports at Redwood. A great time was had by all.
So, with an incredible week now behind us the follow up begins. We ask for your continued prayers as we see more and more young people turn to God. Thanks to everyone for their continued prayers and support.
