Sport at CAS

Students at CAS enjoy a great range of sporting options, despite the school's relatively small size - and they do very well competitively.  Our Sports Co-ordinator Mr Tyler Hobson works hard to provide as many opportunities as he can for our students to pursue the sports they love.

Students up to Year 11 have compulsory sport/PE classes to keep their fitness up, learn new skills and develop team work. On Wednesday afternoons the secondary school students have the option of competing against other high schools in Christchurch, or to pursue their own sporting interest (eg cycling and swimming).

In 2022 our Secondary Girls' Badminton team continued CAS' winning streak, and our Dragon Boating team were champions, winning the Canterbury Secondary Schools' Dragon Boating Sprints cup.  At lunchtime you will see the great Basketball and Volleyball culture in the High School, and keen footballers in the Primary School.

Each year we have Cross Country, Athletics Day, a Swimming Carnival and a big Ski Trip. In Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming, our top students representing the school at the Canterbury Zones competitions.

Our class camps allow opportunities for physical challenges, hiking, swimming, kayaking, abseiling, bouldering, caving and much more.

We honour our top achievers in their individual sports with a special awards ceremony at school at the end of the year, as well as recognising the overall top sports people at our end of year prize giving.
